Chapter Twenty-one

It was a simple kiss. Warm, gentle.

But as his mouth brushed against hers, everything changed. Heat. Fire. Lust. All three rocked him.

Her mouth was sleek, and soft as dawn. It parted in surprise even as his lips slanted against hers, and he heard her mewing gasp of surprise even as his muscles tightened.

From the first second of contact she was swaying into him, pliant and willing as if she’d wanted this every bit as much as he had.

Raw lust pounded through him like a double shot of Jim Beam, obliterating caution in the blink of an eye. He tangled his hands in the lush thickness of her hair and dragged her roughly closer, eliminating every millimeter of space between them.

When he heard her tiny moan of pleasure, felt her sway in his arms, his mouth turned demanding, taking the kiss to a whole new level.

This time it was long, deep, and scorching. Jase dragged her against him, plunging his tongue toward hers, sliding his hands down that slim, curvy body, exploring her hips, cupping her bottom.

Her arms had closed tight around his neck and her mouth clung to his as if they’d been melded. Together they kissed and touched and breathed as one.

He forgot all about the lost teenage girl waiting inside, he forgot the terrible events of the day, he forgot everything but the woman in his arms, the beautiful woman whose breasts were pressed against his chest, whose lips were giving and demanding all at once, the woman he couldn’t tear himself away from.

“Tiffany!”

Devon’s voice shattered the darkness. Erinn was yanked from the warm bubble of pleasure that enveloped her. She jerked back.

Jase was smiling at her.

“Erinn, wait a minute…” he began softly, but she shook her head.

Without a word, she turned and opened the door, rushing back into the cabin. Devon was limping toward the front door, using the cane Erinn had left beside the sofa. For once she appeared more annoyed than angry.

“I’m starving. Isn’t dinner burned to a crisp by now?”

As Jase entered the cabin, the girl flicked each of them a suspicious glance. “What were you two doing out there?”

“Talking.” Erinn hoped her voice didn’t sound as breathless as she felt. She had to pull herself together. “Come sit down,” she said quickly. “I’m sure it’s ready now.”

Hurrying over to the oven, her mind whirling, she grabbed a potholder and yanked the roasting pan out.

She wanted to analyze and dissect what had just happened between her and Jase, but there was no time.

“Perfect timing, it’s ready,” she announced in a breezy tone.

“Smells delicious,” Jase said.

He sounds much too calm, she thought, glancing at him suspiciously. He was now holding his hat in his hands, but he looked anything but humble.

He looked assured, amused, and quite pleased with himself as he strode to the table. “Your sister invited me to stick around for dinner. I’m starving too,” he told Devon.

Erinn suddenly wasn’t sure if Jase was staying only to question Devon, or because he was hungry, or because he hoped to pick up where the two of them had left off.
